Artist Statement

My scientific value panel displays a sense of calmness and fluidly depicts an ocean theme throughout the panel. I wanted to allow one to become visually intrigued with the ocean undersea. I seek to display an enlargement of an organism from nature while also displaying its habitat. I succeeded in doing so by focusing on the three sections, (macrocosm, microcosm, and the golden mean). My inspiration came from the “Finding Nemo” movie, in which I was able to create a enclosing tunnel of flames, fish underneath the ocean, with a flowing jellyfish. This project has allowed me to heighten my creativity in the area of abstraction. By using the value scale from light to dark, it was a helpful tool in making a contrast of dark and light shadows that ultimately appealed to the viewer.

Scientific value panel

Hey ladies, so I'm posting my process of the scientific value panel. It was a bit challenging at first with figuring out where I wanted to place certain values but I believe it came out successfully! I have to say that I'm not one who's a painter but after working on this project, I have to say that I enjoyed it.

Value scale!!!

In the mist of doing the scientific value panel, I took time out (3 hours to be exact) to mix 9 of the values for the value scale. Boy was this a bit challenging. I finished and thought to myself since I spent all of the time mixing and mixing why not create a border for the value strip to make it look all neat and professional. So not only did I do one, I did two! The picture seen below is the strips glued down and drying.

Scientific Value Panel Sketches

I spent countless hours trying to map out my ideas all in one. Because I did tons of visual research, putting all of what I liked into three parts was rather difficult. So that's why I decided to do 3 different sketches and from here I picked the one that I liked the most. I picked different parts from all three to form one. However, I'm still thinking about the final piece and whether it works into an entire piece. Please comment and tell me what you think!

Scientific Value Panel Research

Okay ladies so this is my research for the scientific value panel. I went all over with it because at first I didn't know what my theme would be. First I thought I wanted to do a Japanese theme. Then I finally decided to go with an oceanic theme. I know a theme is not needed but I feel comfortable having one. I hope you guys enjoy my ideas as much as I do.
